My eyes exploded at IKEA
Spent part of the very recent weekend in Dallas, Texas. We debated about going somewhere else, but it seemed just as good a place as any to go - so off we went. We started our trip out this time before the sun had even come up on Saturday - for me this is almost unheard of - we were leaving the house at slightly after the time I am usually going to bed. This little adventure had the benefit of being with some really good friends. Here are some of the highlights (in no particular order):
We ate at Cafe Brazil - home of some of the best coffee anywhere!
We went to the Dallas World Aquarium. The name is a little mis-leading. They have a lot more than just things you would find in an aquarium. There were birds, an otter, monkeys, snakes, a jaguar, bugs, and oh yea - fish. There is a restaurant there - they serve fish - somehow that just seems wrong, so we didn’t eat there. We wandered around the place for hours and I am sure that we didn’t see everything.
We ate at Dick’s Last Resort. The food was decent. The atmosphere was very much a bar. I think people go there for the booze - we didn’t drink since we had more driving to do.
We went to IKEA. This is where my eyes exploded. There was so much to see and when you thought you might have seen it all, there is another turn in the road and more things to see just appear out of nowhere. I have been to their website before and everything is very neatly contained into nice little categories. The store is still nicely organized, but there is so much to see that you can’t take it all in at one time. Walking in the door, you really don’t see all that much - so you really don’t know what to expect. The second you arrive on the second floor - you don’t know where to look. There are “rooms” everywhere. Each one of the rooms has so much stuff in it that you can’t seem to see it all - even though you are really trying to. As we wandered through as much of the store as we could, we found so many interesting things to look at. Overall, I would recommend stopping there if you are ever in that part of the world. It is definitely worth taking a look.
