Nothing, nothing, and more nothing

Posting has been very light over the past week. I seriously considered writing this as an apology for that, but finally decided that I was not all that sorry. I had a glorious time over the past week doing a whole lot of nothing. I had a few turkey dinners to attend to (oh god, please, no more turkey…), but overall I didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything that didn’t strike my fancy at the time. So instead of a hollow apology I give you my week in review:

Monday started the week off in much the same manner as most of my weeks; I went to work. The difference was that I had to get most of the week’s work early to prepare for the holiday. When I got home from work - I had a migraine starting, so I took meds and basically curled up in the recliner and watched tv for the rest of the evening.

Tuesday was composed of the rest of the full blown migraine. The pain was pretty intense and I couldn’t get much sleep, so I emailed my boss and any other interested parties that I would be spending the day home and not at work as previously planned. I spent the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon in my bed, in the dark and quiet (no books, no tv, no music, no computer, no phone - nothing). About mid-afternoon my migraine had dulled to a headache and I could actually think about moving. I crawled out of my bed and moved to the recliner to listen to tv (didn’t really attempt to watch it until later). By the evening I was starting to return to normal, but I didn’t try anything fancy. By late evening I was getting restless and we went to get coffee with some friends. Throughout the day- we received several phone calls to attend holiday meals.

Wednesday I had the day off from work, so no need to check in with them. We did have the need to brave the grocery stores for some holiday related food items for those last minute dinner invites we received. Once the shopping was done and the groceries were put away - it was finally time to play some video games. While we were out, we rented some movies and some games. My life partner and I spent most of the rest of the day playing Guitar Hero III. We played through the entire co-career section (on easy) together which resulted in my hands turning into some type of crab claws and a small unexplained bruise on my arm.

Thursday morning we spent cooking pies for the various holiday feasts we were to be attending later in the day - we cooked 4 pies. This was also the only day I turned on my computer (to search for a recipe since ours seemed to have gone missing) - I did also manage to make the time to post my thankful list. The online pie recipe was not exactly the same one that we use to make these pies, so we had to re-adjust it to be the way we needed it to be to come out just right. We get many requests to make this pie for all types of gatherings and not just during the holidays. Since I would rather not lose our pie recipe again, I will be posting it here in the next couple of days. Thursday afternoon and evening were spent attending the aforementioned holiday gatherings. It was great to get to see all those people that we haven’t seen in awhile - this may become a new holiday tradition.

Friday we had one more holiday dinner to attend, so we got up a little early to do a little more cooking. Then we watched a couple of our rented movies while the food cooked and headed over to the post-holiday dinner we had planned with some close friends. Mind you - this is the only pre-planned holiday meal that we had made arrangements for prior to Tuesday. We spent the rest of the evening talking and playing games with our friends. We were over at their house until at least 2am - we had a great time!

Saturday we stayed in bed until late. We did get out of bed pretty close to lunchtime. Since we had devoured so much turkey in the previous two days, we decided that Chinese food was the best choice for lunch. The big game was in Norman, so we went into Oklahoma City to avoid all the traffic and commotion.  We ate and ran a couple of errands and then went home to be lazy.

Sunday we had early morning coffee with friends. Somehow the early morning coffee turned into an all morning event and somewhat into the afternoon. We sat outside the Starbuck’s until we froze - it was great! We then decided it might be time to go home, so we did. After we got home, we decided that it was just best to stay there. The rest of the evening was spent watching movies and staying warm.

Overall - I would say it was about a perfect holiday weekend. I could do with a few more like that.
