More to come…
This is the soon to be home of the blog that is currently located at belhoste.blogspot.com. I am currently in the process of getting all the blogger stuff (i.e. my blog posts and comments) translated into WordPress. You have reached this page because the forward is not currently working to take you to the correct place.

I will be as quick as I can about all this, so check back here soon for the new and improved belhoste blog.
Update 9/30/07: I went ahead and upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.3. This ensures that I won’t have to make any new upgrades to this system for at least a couple of days
Update 10/7/07 : I have been working on importing in all the old posts from blogger, with no luck. I keep getting a timeout error when authorizing Google to allow WordPress access to my account. I will keep trying, but in the meantime it looks like we’re stuck on just one post.
Update 10/10/07: I have imported all my blogger posts into my new WordPress blog that I host. The solution was roundabout but doable. The timeout error was caused by the fact that I did not have a SSL installed for my website. I did not want to pay the extra money to have it included for my site, so I opted for the roundabout method. This method included creating a wordpress.com site; importing all the posts using their SSL; exporting out of that site; and finally importing everything over here. You can find more detailed instructions for all this here. Now I can work on prettying everything up here. I will edit my FeedBurner feed to this new site and post a message over at blogger to redirect traffic. Thanks to everyone for your patience.

Oops. My mistake. I thought you were going to leave the old stuff alone, rather than import into the new WP blog.
No matter. Things will work out. WP is utterly different from Blogger, but I’ve found it runs pretty seamlessly once it’s in place.
I really liked setting up WP. It only took me a couple of hours to get it up and running in it’s default form. Most of that time was taken in extracting the WP files and then FTPing them over to the host server. I really like how much more control I have over my blog - blogger was just so limited in what you could do with it. I am now working on getting the templates setup the way I want them to be. There is some quirkiness with creating them, but I think it will work out overall.
Thanks for your support in this. I really appreciate it.
What do you want to accomplish in WP that Blogger couldn’t handle? Just curious.
That is the same question I asked myself before I started all this. Don’t get me wrong, I like Blogger. There were many things that it handles that I don’t have to think about and I guess that is part of the problem. I want to have more control. I want to be able to change the look of my blog without having to worry about losing everything that I have customized. I really want to add some of the WordPress widgets/plugins that are available. Before you ask… here is the list of types: related posts, tracking, theme options, and third party services integration.
Some of the other things I like about WP: better post management; actual back up choices; comment pages have the look of your choice; ability to have multiple pages (can act more like a site than a blog); more options for picture hosting; no more risk of being shut-down as spam; and I want to have more control of my blog.
These are just the ones off the top of my head - I think you may have inspired me to write a whole post about this. Thanks
Thank you for sharing!
